Why I Joined Test Double

For the past couple of decades, I’ve been on a mission:
Make the world of software product delivery a better place.

That mission has taken a lot of forms over the years—writing, speaking, coaching, leading, building, sometimes tearing down and starting over. I’ve worked with early-stage startups, Fortune 50 companies, and everything in between. And in that time, I’ve seen how hard delivery can be—not because people don’t care, but because we rarely set ourselves up for success.

Great software delivery isn’t just about writing well composed code. It’s about how we work together. How we decide what matters. How we treat each other. How we build trust with users, customers, and teammates. And honestly? That’s the part I care most about.

So when I say I’m joining Test Double as their new VP of Delivery, I’m not just making a career move—I’m making an alignment move. This is a company that already values the things I value. They’ve built a strong culture, a strong team, and a strong set of practices. I’m not joining to overhaul anything. I’m joining to help make something great even better.

What drew me in

I’ve been aware of Test Double for a long time. I watched from a distance as they quietly and consistently delivered high-quality work, built an intentional culture, and made deliberate decisions about how they grow and show up in the world.

It’s rare to find a consultancy that balances craft, care, and business sense so well. Rarer still to find one that puts just as much thought into how they work as what they work on.

And that “how” is what I’ve built much of my own work around.

A shared foundation

A while back, I formalized a framework that had been emerging in my work with teams for years—a set of behaviors that I believe are essential for healthy, high-performing product teams. It’s not a checklist or a maturity model. It’s a lens. A set of patterns. A way of seeing and improving.

They are:

When I look at how Test Double works—their priorities, their language, their structure—I see these behaviors already in motion. That’s a huge part of why this feels like the right move. There’s already momentum. There’s already care. I’m not starting from zero—I’m joining a team that gets it.

What’s next

My job here is to support and evolve Test Double’s engagement delivery practice. That means helping teams deliver amazing work for clients, sure—but it also means supporting the people doing the work. It means shaping systems that reduce friction and increase clarity. It means ensuring that our clients experience not just quality software, but quality delivery.

And, true to form, I’ll keep writing, speaking, sharing, and learning out loud. Because that’s part of the mission too.

Final thought

There’s a lot going on in the software industry right now—economic pressure, layoffs, burnout, shifts in process and tooling. It’s easy to feel cynical or overwhelmed. But I’m not interested in sitting on the sidelines and complaining about how things should be. I want to be part of the work of actually making it better.

Joining Test Double is one more step in that direction.

If you're facing tough challenges in how you build and deliver software products, or you're looking for a team where values and craft actually align—Test Double is worth a closer look. We’re always up for a good problem and always looking for good people.
